Join us for some guided tours on various interesting topics from Halle’s richt history. Participation is limited to 25 for each tour and will be on a first come, first served basis. Please remember to tick the respective boxes when registering for the conference.

State Museum of Prehistory

The State Museum of Prehistory is one of the most respected archaeological institutions in Central Europe and one of Germany’s oldest, largest and most important archaeological collections. It is best known throughout the world as the home of the Nebra Sky Disc – a bronze disk which features the oldest concrete depiction of the cosmos yet known form anywhere in the world. It thus reconfirms the astronomical knowledge and abilities of the people of the European Bronze Age possessed.

You will be shown around the permanent exhibition covering nearly 400.000 years of human history – from the beginning of the Stone Age to the early Roman Imperial period and on to the Middle Ages and evenually to the Early Modern Times.

Art Museum Castle Moritzburg

The Moritzburg, built in the late middle Ages, at one time served as a residence for the archbishops of Magdeburg. Today the Moritzburg houses the State Art Museum, with one of the most important collections of classical modernism on display.

G.F. Handel‘s Birthplace

Come and join us on a tour through George Frideric Handel’s house of birth. The composer spent his childhood in youth in Halle before becoming Kapellmeister to King George I of Great Britain and Ireland and subsequently moving to England.

In the award-winning exhibition „Handel – The European“ his life and work are depicted with the aid of historical exhibits. Here historical musical instruments as well as paintings, drawings, prints and first editions are displayed thus giving an insight into the early life of the great Baroque composer.

Francke Foundations – Wunderkammer and Library

Experience this cosmos of knowledge from the Baroque period: visit the Historic Library of 1728 and the Cabinet of Art and Natural History in the Historic Orphanage. The library’s impressive scenery storeroom holds valuable books dating from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries in the earliest preserved profane library building of Germany. The Cabinet of Art and Natural History is regarded as the earliest German museum room and is one of the best preserved cabinets of curiosities in Europe.
